I am Miss Bri, a traditional Southern-style reader, spiritual adviser, teacher, and conjure woman.  I work full-time for clients all over the world and run a home-based spiritual supply shop, Milagro Roots, which features Lucky Mojo Curio Co. products, as well as my house brand of custom products and spiritual services. Many of my core clients and students come from the American South and appreciate the authentic, traditional approach I provide.

Growing up in South Central Texas, I was a gifted child who spent a great deal of time outside in nature.  Under the tutelage of various family members I learned how to identify and use different plans and flowers for medicinal and magical purposes.  I was also a sickly child so early on I started reflecting seriously on death and suffering which I believe has contributed greatly to shaping my life, interests, and blessed me with the ability to relate to others in a kind-hearted and compassionate manner.  I was raised Missionary Baptist and attended church services regularly in my youth.  My family has always been active in church, serving in a number of different positions.  Several family members are musically and artistically talented.  I myself an a singer and have performed in many gospel and classical groups.

Early on I realized I had a gift and love for all things magical.  My grandmother received a book of Brian Froud illustrations in the early 80's when I was a little girl and that book opened up a world of myth and faerie tales  that I have never completely left.  My mother is a gifted healer and reader who taught me various magical traditions including Tarot, Astrology, Runes, Elemental Alchemy, Kabbala, and Oracle Reading.  She encouraged and created a safe place for my magical explorations.

When I hit puberty I decided to take a break from regular church attendance and discover what some of the other world traditions were like.  This led me in different directions.  I began by learning about Roman Catholicism, especially as it is practiced in South Central Texas, West Texas, and Northern New Mexico.  Since half of my family are practicing Catholics this tradition was closer to me than some of the others that I would later encounter.  I then went on to study various occult traditions including Wicca--traditional, Gardnerian, Eclectic, and Dianic traditions; the religious and folkloric practices of Northern New Mexico Pueblo Tribes and the practices of the Cherokee as well as Victor Anderson's Feri Tradition.  I have made serious endeavors to learn about Buddhism, Taoism, Hinduism, Islam, and Judaism.  Illuminated by a better understanding of the various paths available to the seeker, I returned to my own roots and walk of faith with an open and joyous heart. For those who are interested, the two religious paths that most influence my own theological thinking besides Christianity as understood through the Missionary Baptist Church are Judaism and Hinduism.  I fall into the Perennialist school of thought when it comes to religion and questions of comparative religion.

I have a voracious appetite for books and reading, consequently I hold both a BA and MA in classics and have studied Ancient Greek, Sanskrit, and French.  Unique opportunities have arisen due to my literary bent including the chance to translate sections of the New Testament (from the Greek) and the sacred Hindu text the Bhagavad-Gita.  Professionally, I have worked as a business owner, manager, and teacher as well as a reader and rootworker.  Because I have lived in New Mexico, Maryland, and California over the past ten years I am familiar with several different regions of the country.  Upon moving to San Francisco in early 2006 I discovered Miss catherine yronwode and the Lucky Mojo Curio Company.  Soon I was going up to LMC regularly and talking with/learning from miss cat.  I owe so much of my work as a reader and conjure woman to miss cat.  Her deeply wise teachings and beloved friendship instruct me far beyond the scope of traditional Hoodoo and continue to teach me much about life.

I am dedicated to practicing, preserving, and teaching others how to practice traditional Southern Conjure and African American Hoodoo magic.  I am a moderator for the Lucky Mojo Product Forums, a founding member of the Association of Readers and Rootworkers (AIRR), and a Certified Lucky Mojo practitioner.

When I am not providing readings and work for clients I like to cook, garden, write, read, and go for meandering strolls with my wonderful and amazing husband.  Although I am civic-minded and concerned with justice in many areas of life (sun-sign Libra), the single cause that I have been a consistently strong advocate for is greater humanity and benevolence towards the animals that we share this beautiful planet with.  I am especially concerned with making the case that Christianity and religious communities have a vested interest in promoting kindness towards people, animals, and all of God's natural creation.

I am a member of AIRR: the Association of Independent Readers and Rootworkers
